Trusting The Looneyverse

Trusting The Looneyverse

Continued from a previous post

Last time I left off:

October 26, 2009 – N’s phone rings and it is the soon to be employer. We both think, great, he is finally going to get his start date. Instead, she starts out by saying, “I’m really sorry, but we got a brand new executive director and she wants the person in this position to be someone who had gone through recovery.” This was something that had never been an element of the job requirement previously. But being that this was in a recovery center, the new executive director felt this was important and had the authority to veto N’s hire. I went into a panic attack. All trust in the looneyverse flew out the window at that moment. N came and calmed me down and said, lets look at the budget. See what he had told our landlord was all well and good, but we had never actually crunched the numbers to know if it were fact. Something that I actually highly doubted to be true. We sat down to crunch the numbers and, in typical looneyverse style, we collectively have exactly enough to cover all of our expenses. Yes it is tight, but it is doable.

November 9, 2009 – Nik gets an interview with Glide memorial. He and I talk before the interview and I express my concern because the interview is for a part-time position that pays less per hour than we budgeted for a full-time position. He expresses a deep interest in working with Glide and we agree he should go in for the interview. He calls me after the interview to let me know that not only did he get hired, but he got hired for a full-time, albeit temporary position making exactly what we need for our budget AND he starts the same day.

November 11, 2009 – As the Fall semester has gone on, I have been contemplating changing departments at school from Women’s Spirituality to Clinical Psychology Psy. D. program. I meet with admissions to discuss why I am looking to change as well as my background. The admissions counselor suggests calling the department chair right away to discuss this with her. He expects based on the time that I will need to leave a message. I call right away, she answers and we set up a meeting the following Monday.

November 12, 2009 – I have a job interview with an amazing non-profit, Friend of the Earth (FotE). This leaves me very conflicted. This would be a great full-time position. The problem, if I go for the Psy. D. I will need to attend full-time, daytime course. I decide to at least go in for the interview with the department head and make a decision after that.   This same day a friend sends N information about a great work from home position. He forwards it to me and I apply for the position right away.

November 13, 2009 – The work from home position asks me to do a skills test. I again complete that and send it right away. I also get a phone call from FotE asking me to come in for a second interview.

November 16, 2009 – I have an amazing discussion with the head of Psy. D. department. I immediately walk over to the registrars office and apply for transfer to the Clinical Psych department. That evening I speak with N and we agree that the thing of integrity to do is cancel my second interview with FotE.

November 17, 2009 – I have a phone interview with the work from home company. I am told that its not a matter of if I’ll get the job, but which position I will get. She tells me I should get confirmation by the next day.

November 18, 2009 – I officially get the position. It is the perfect position for me for the departmental change I am making. I work 20 hrs per week. I can work at any time of the day and it pays more per hour than we had budgeted for.

And this is the perfect, crazy, wonderful reasons that I absolutely trust in the looneyverse. I couldn’t make this timeline up. It is important for me to remember how perfectly everything has fallen into place, exactly as I needed it.
